People living in former industrial towns are the most likely to become obese, research suggests.

Residents of Easington, County Durham, are 22% more likely to become obese than the average person, while those in Corby, Northamptonshire, are 21% more at risk than average.

Credit reference company Experian and analyst Dr Foster Intelligence drew up a league table of the obesity risk in English and Welsh local authority areas.

Bottom of the table was the west London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where residents are 37% less likely than average to become obese.
